Havering Borough Council have introduced controversial proposals to criminalise busking in Romford town centre using a Public Space Protection Order. In proposals that have come under strong criticism from Human Rights advocacy body Liberty for the impact that they are likely to have upon the most vulnerable in society, they are also seeking to ban all 'begging and the seeking of alms'. This means that destitute people could face unpayable fines of up to £1000 at a time of rising homelessness. Your support in Birmingham helped convince the council to abandon its own plans to criminalise busking using a PSPO and to work with buskers, Keep Streets Live, Equity and the Musician's Union to introduce new busking guidance that works for the benefit of all instead. Now we need your help in Romford as we ask Havering Borough Council to rethink their PSPO proposal and to abandon their plan to criminalise buskers and to work alongside them instead. If you could take a moment to sign this petition I would be very grateful: https://www.change.org/p/havering-borough-council-don-t-ban-romford-s-buskers-don-t-criminalise-the-destitute?recruiter=22155823&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=share_facebook_responsive&utm_term=des-lg-no_src-custom_msg Thank you for your ongoing support, Jonny Walker Founding Director of the Keep Streets Live Campaign http://keepstreetslive.com
