The Issue

Bike taxis are not just a convenience—they are a necessity. For over 1.5 lakh drivers in Bengaluru, they are the only source of income. For commuters, they offer a quick, affordable, and efficient way to navigate a city where public transportation doesn’t reach everyone.

Now, all of that is on the line.

A recent High Court order has effectively banned bike taxis until a regulatory policy is in place. This decision has pushed over a lakh of drivers into crisis—no work, no income, no warning.

This isn’t sustainable. And it’s not fair.

Drivers—men and women—have lost jobs overnight.

Families are staring at empty kitchens and unpaid rents.

Commuters have lost an essential, eco-friendly option.

We are not asking for unregulated chaos. We are urging the government to act urgently and responsibly.

We call on the Transport Department and the Government of Karnataka to:

Protect the livelihoods of lakhs of gig workers.

Allow bike taxis to operate under interim guidelines while regulations are finalised.

Accelerate the development of a fair, inclusive, and enforceable bike taxi policy.

Bike taxis keep this city moving. Don’t let legal delays destroy livelihoods and shut down a vital service.
