Don’t Ban Kindness – Create Safe Bird Feeding Zones in Mumbai
The Issue
Feeding is not a crime, it's compassion.
Our Indian culture has always been rooted in kindness—offering food and shelter not just to people, but to all living beings, including birds and animals.
In a rapidly developing city like Mumbai, where countless trees are cut in the name of progress, the natural homes of birds—especially pigeons—are being destroyed. They suffer silently every day, and the least we humans can do is offer them water and food. But even that basic act of compassion is now being criminalized.
Authorities claim pigeons are “dangerous,” yet thousands of families have lived peacefully for decades next to khabutarkhanas (pigeon shelters), with no health crisis or epidemic caused by feeding them. Just because one incident involved a politician’s family, a blanket verdict was passed to ban feeding pigeons entirely.
Where is the same urgency when lives are lost daily due to potholes and poor road conditions? Where are the strict laws against alcohol and tobacco, which actually claim lives?
This isn't just about pigeons. This is about compassion being pushed aside under the guise of control.
👉 I urge you to sign this petition to revoke the bill banning pigeon feeding.
Let’s stand together to protect the voiceless and create a more compassionate, caring environment for all.
