Charge Teen for the Death of Tratavious Davon Oliver McDuffie

Charge Teen for the Death of Tratavious Davon Oliver McDuffie
The Issue
I am the mother of Tratavious McDuffie 18, who was killed on December 4, 2013 due to negligence. His friend was handling a firearm inappropriately when it discharged, shooting my son in the neck. My son died in route to Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Carlos Sifuentes took my son's life and is walking around a free man while my family grieves for the lost of my son. The investigator states she thinks it was an accident based on what Mr. Sifuentes has told them and another gentleman. The other two gentlemen in the home fled. The Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide. What was this 17 year old doing with a firearm? Teenagers shouldn't own firearms or have access to them. The young man should be punished for his mistakes and that way other teenagers will know that firearms are not toys and they can lead to someone's demise. If the state doesn't charge him with this homicide then that leaves a doorway for other teens to kill and say it is an accident. I don't want my child to be swept under the rug because he was a human being who lost his life and had loved ones who would give anything to have him back with us. Tratavious leaves to cherish a mother and two younger siblings. He didn't get to walk across stage in May 2014 to receive his high school diploma, I wore his cap and gown in his place. My family and I will never know what kind of man he would have turned out to be. By no means do I wish for the life of Carlos Sifuentes to be taken from him in a means that he doesn't stand a chance. I do believe he needs to pay for the aspect of having the gun, if that only entails the punishment being probation, advocating against gun violence and teens having guns, as well as others that are not responsible with guns. I actually want Mr. Sifuentes to have a chance at life, even though my son won't and I hope this will lead him in that direction, because he is choosing the wrong options. Please sign my petition to end gun violence among teens. The world has seen enough of teen killings due to having access to firearms. Please let it stop here with "Trey".
