One of Canada's Education Researchers from the University of Alberta is raising the flag with concerns about early literacy development. He suggests 75% of children who don't overcome their literacy lags in development by grade 3 will struggle for the remainder of school life. And it leaves me to wonder what impact that has on self-esteem, mental health, confidence, school dropout, and ultimately, employment and adult self-sufficiency. Yes, without proficient literacy levels there is a "snowball effect" that is felt well beyond the corridors of schools.
