Dogs on Skid Row are being mutilated, drugged with fentanyl, and left to suffer in plain sight — and Los Angeles is doing nothing.

For years, animal advocates have documented horrific abuse on Skid Row. Investigative reporters have filmed it on camera. Dogs have been found with their eyes glued shut, broken bones, and mutilated paws. Cats and dogs are being given fentanyl. And still, Mayor Karen Bass and local law enforcement have failed to take meaningful action.

A nonprofit law firm, Advancing Law for Animals, has now filed a federal complaint with the FBI and Attorney General demanding the feds step in — because the city won't.

It should never have come to this. Los Angeles has the power to stop illegal sidewalk breeding, animal cruelty, and neglect right now. The evidence is documented. The abuse is ongoing. The only thing missing is the political will to act.

Joey Tuccio, who has spent years documenting the crisis for his homeless nonprofit, put it plainly: "Instead of helping abused, raped and neglected animals, city officials would rather keep supporting criminals."

These animals cannot speak for themselves. Mayor Bass can — and should.
