As a devoted dog owner, I am deeply concerned about the well-being and safety of our furry friends when it comes to air travel. It is time for airports to recognize that dogs are not mere cargo but beloved family members who deserve better treatment during their journey.

It is unacceptable that current regulations force owners of any non-toy breed dog to ship their dogs as cargo, subjecting them to potential mishaps and neglect. Numerous incidents have occurred where animals were left in crates for extended periods of time, exposed to extreme weather conditions, or even lost on tarmacs due to mishandling.

This petition aims to bring attention to the urgent need for change in airport policies regarding our four-legged family members. We demand that all airports revise their procedures so that dogs can remain with their owners past security checkpoints until boarding begins. 

While some may argue against this change due to concerns about allergies or potential disruptions caused by unruly pets, it is important not only consider these issues but also find practical solutions. For example, designated pet-friendly areas within airports could be established where individuals with allergies can avoid direct contact. By allowing dogs to stay with their owners, we can ensure a safer travel experience for the dog by drastically reducing the amount of time the animal is confined, potentially without access to food or water, and create a much less stressful travel journey for all involved. 

We believe that by implementing this policy shift, airports will demonstrate a commitment towards animal welfare while also promoting a more compassionate society overall.
