The dog population of Great Neck has exploded over the past decade and has grown exponentially larger over the pandemic. Only recently has the Great Neck Parks Department recognized this fact and has begun to accommodate the dog population of Great Neck.

As taxpayers we support the Great Neck Parks Departments efforts to install dog runs at Allenwood Park and the Village Green. In particular, Allenwood Park has many acres of underutilized fields that are often vacant through all seasons. Despite many lies being circulated on social media, the location of the dog runs at Allenwood Park are in an entirely underutilized portion of the park (see photo below).

We support the location chosen by the GNPD and further wish for dogs to be allowed at ALL GNPD parks.

As usual, there is a vocal minority of individuals that live next to Allenwood Park that feel they have a right to control what goes on at the park and have demanded the park be placed elsewhere. The usual “Not In My Backyard” crowd.  Despite their proximity to the park their rights are NOT paramount to the rest of the taxpayers of Great Neck.
