Ban pit bull fighting in Bahrain

Ban pit bull fighting in Bahrain
The Issue
My name is Sandi Thom, I am a Scottish singer songwriter and a devoted animal rescuer. I have lived in a country in the Middle East called Bahrain now for 3 years and in that time voluntarily took over the Dogfather Centre after its found passed away and some time later founded the biggest no-kill dog and cat shelter in Bahrain, known as the Bahrain Animal Rescue Centre.
One of the most troubling problems we face here, on top of the ever increasing population of strays to take in and tend to is the breeding and sale of dogs deliberately for the purpose of dog fighting.
Dog fighting, in particular Pit bull fighting, has now been outlawed throughout most of the world. However here in Bahrain dogs are still bred and sold purely for the purpose of dog fighting DESPITE THERE BEING A LAW IN PLACE.
There Act of dog fighting here in Bahrain and this barbaric archaic act of animal exploitation and cruelty continues to take place.
As a rescue center we constantly receive dogs, particularly pit bulls, both female and male who have been thrown out onto the street and discarded because their either to old to breed or to weak to fight.
We also receive very many “bait dogs” the small sweet runts who are thrown into the fighting ring to taunt the other dogs.
These dogs are exploited, abused, tortured beyond all measure and if they do not die from their injuries they are surrendered to the shelter for us to deal with.
They come to us traumatized covered in scars, often missing ears, tails, eyes... they’ll female dogs come to us looking like they’ve done nothing but breed and give birth their entire lives drained, emaciated and depleted of energy. Furthermore they come to us broken and depressed requiring so much mental and physical rehabilitation.
It is a horrific site to see a dog beaten and abused to this degree...And why? All in the name of dog fighting... a business that continues to thrive here.
Have we not reached a point in humanity’s development where these acts of cruelty should no longer take place?? If your answer to the question is simply “yes” then sign this petition. It takes moments. Because in order to create real change we must speak up in volume. Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much. Our strength is in numbers so stand united for these dogs to stop these horrific acts of cruelty that need not exist in our world.
