Hi, my name is Carol and 14 years ago I had my son. I gave birth to my son in a Scottish hospital. My labour was progressing and then slowed down. It was decided by the consultant on duty that I needed to have an assisted delivery, this turned out to be a vontuse delivery were a suction cap is attached to the babies head and the baby is pulled out. When any medical professional decides to carry out any type of medical procedure, they must first obtain informed consent. To give full informed consent the patient must be made aware of all the possible outcomes, even if there is only a 1% chance of something happening, they must also be told of the alternatives that are available, so that informed consent can be given to allow the doctor to carry out the medical procedure, allowing the patient to be fully in control of what happens to their body. For me this didn't happen, I wasn't told of the risk, the alternatives were not explained, and the doctor in question failed in his duty of care to access any injuries that may be present as a result of the procedure he decided to do. I fought this case in court for 10 years, being let down time and time again by legal teams and the medical doctors who took an oath 'TO DO NO HARM'. What happened to me has left me with a life time disability, as well as loosing my job, my self respect and nearly my life. The doctor who injured me goes on with his life still working for the NHS and also in private work. My suffering has no end, no timescale to when it will be over, why is his life any more important than mine. That is why I am starting this petition, this is to stop anyone else going through what I have, as well as many more people. I believe the doctor should be prosecuted, if a bus driver took a bus full of passengers down a one way street, knowing there was a possibility of him crashing and injuring all his passengers, he would be held accountable, so why not doctors.
