The Issue

Growing up in Melbourne Beach, Florida, I have always cherished the pristine waters and the vibrant aquatic activities that our community has to offer. Whether it's a family outing on the boat or a peaceful day of fishing, the boat ramp at Melbourne Beach has played a pivotal role in bringing people together. However, every time we launch our boat, there's a lingering concern that shadows our joy—the lack of a dock next to the boat ramp.

Installing a dock at the Melbourne Beach boat ramp would significantly enhance the overall safety for everyone, especially for our children. The current setup poses considerable risks, particularly when it comes to launching and docking boats. The rocks that have been placed in front of the public seawall recently have replaced the sandy area that people would in the past use to stage their watercraft while parking or retrieving their vehicle. The absence of a proper dock makes it difficult to smoothly embark and disembark, increasing the chances of slips, falls, or even more severe accidents.

A modest dock, not exceeding 30 feet in length and 4 feet in width would serve as a vital infrastructure improvement, making the boat ramp more navigable and accessible for small water crafts. It would also be a considerable asset for our local fishermen, elderly residents, and beginners who might otherwise struggle with the current configuration.

Addressing this safety concern is not just about convenience; it's about protecting our loved ones and ensuring that everyone can enjoy the beautiful waterways without risking injury. Studies have repeatedly demonstrated that well-equipped dock facilities drastically reduce accidents and injuries in aquatic environments. By installing a dock, we will not only improve safety but also enhance the overall experience for Melbourne Beach Community residents.

Let's come together as a community to ensure that the Melbourne Beach boat ramp is equipped with a dock that offers safety, convenience, and peace of mind. Enforcement measures similar to those that are used for the Melbourne beach public parking spaces could be implemented to ensure resident use only. Sign this petition to urge our local authorities to prioritize the construction of a dock for the welfare and safety of our community. Together, we can create a safer and more enjoyable environment.

Key points to include:

Why the rocks are a safety hazard

How big the dock would be

Residents only passes/stickers for use similar to the parking ones already in use.
