We want inmate emails delivered within 24-48 hours
Why this petition matters
The purpose of the petition is to make it a Washington State regulation for inmate email communications to be sent/delivered within 24-48 hours after the email is sent by the incarcerated individual or received by the institution. Frustrations of receiving emails eight or nine days after they were sent can cause immense conflict in personal relationships, emotional turmoil, and a decline of one’s overall mental health. We are working to replace this impermissible time frame and eliminate some of the stress caused by this extended lag in delivery time.
Currently, Washington DOC’s policy is written to permit outgoing and/or incoming JPay emails up to SEVEN BUSINESS DAYS to be processed. That means to communicate one round of emails with your incarcerated loved one, it can take between seventeen to twenty calendar days! We need your help and support! Please join this petition. Please be sure to include the most important reason why you support the petition.
Reasons of why one might support this petition will vary. Examples can include, but aren’t limited to: the delays in emails are causing arguments between loved ones, the delays are blocking loved one's ability to be a parent with their children, important information is being delayed, time-sensitive messages are being received too late, snail mail is being delivered faster than email, correspondents are dropping off and eliminating their communications with prisoners because of the delays, etc. etc. Whatever your reason(s), please be sure to include it when you sign this petition.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
