Good afternoon,
We spent 3 days at council last week, and after listening (or not listening) to the majority of people who spoke, the council has decided, because of pricing blowouts to investigate only one of the options Devon St West/South Road at a staggering $14 million. My question is, who pays for the rest of the city cycleways when one costs this much?
The council are stuck between a rock and a hard place, any money spent on this project has to be paid back to Waka Kotahi if it doesn't go ahead. With 2+ million already spent on defunct plans, and with this total increasing a lot further now with investigating and consulting on different options, we see this spending spiralling out of control. We have already been told by council staff and the out-of-town designer that the Mayor's recommendations can not be achieved.
The recent press releases have made it sound like it is all over, so a lot of people won't join us as we present our petition of over 7000 signatures to council on Wednesday the 27th of September at 8.45 a.m. Please join us, and bring your friends
Thanks so much for your ongoing support,
Sharon Devlin
