Do Not Let Mr. Adeyinka Grandson Shoyemi Die in U.K. Prison. Relase Him Now!
The Issue
As a Nigerian resident in the UK, Mr. Adeyinka “Grandson” Shoyemi lent his voice to call for agitation for regional governance and installation of a responsive and responsible government for a better and more perfect union in his native country. There has never been a time Mr. Shoyemi has called for physical attacks and annihilation of other ethnic tribes in Nigeria in his agitation for national restructuring as the leader of the London-based Young Yoruba for Freedom-YYF-which has many followership all over the world, including in the United States. We vouch for his pacific approach to his crusade for a better Nigeria, because many Nigerians at home and abroad align with the same objectives of patriotic Nigerians all over the world that are calling for good governance, transparency, justice, fairness, rule of law, religious tolerance and accountability in Nigeria.
In today’s technological world, the social media platforms have become veritable outlets to advocate and agitate for these lofty ideals. Many Nigerians that are scattered all over the world have leveraged on these platforms, including Mr. Shoyemi to pursue these lofty objectives on behalf of preponderant impoverished, voiceless and disadvantaged Nigerians. It is disheartening that the UK authorities have singled out Mr. Shoyemi in the UK for rough treatment, humiliation and physical abuse for exercising his basic fundamental human rights guaranteed every citizen and resident of the UK.
Mr. Shoyemi is imprisoned in the UK because of his political activism and has been subjected to various forms of ill-treatment and torture by the UK Prison Authorities at Aylesbury. Informal investigations revealed that Mr. Shoyemi is being persecuted by British Police because his ex-wife concocted a story and an unfounded allegation against him over the custody of their two children in the UK. Consequently, as Nigerian-Americans in the United States and around the world and believers in the causes being pursued by Mr. Shoyemi which align with our objectives for a better and more prosperous Nigeria,
we respectfully request the following from the Rt. Hon Prime Minister:-
(1) Please Hon Prime Minister, wade into this matter and investigate the circumstances of the arrest, prosecution and incarceration of Mr. Adeyinka “Grandson” Shoyemi by the London Metropolitan Police. Why was he kept in prison for two and a half years?
(2) Why did the London Metropolitan Police move him from Westminster Prison after he had been physically beaten and abused and upon learning there were some Christian pastors from the United States in London in October, 2024 interested in this matter? Why was he peremptorily transferred to Aylesbury Prison and now being held incommunicado reminiscent of the Old Soviet Gulag? Are these debilities, abuses, deprivations and inhuman treatments meted to Mr. Adeyinka “Grandson” Shoyemi ostensibly for “Publishing and distributing materials on social media platforms, namely four YouTube videos and two Facebook posts as threatening, abusive, insulting, or intending to stir up racial hatred against the Ibo and Fulani people of Nigeria, contrary to Section 21(1) and Section 19(1) of the Public Order Act 1986 of the United Kingdom.?” To date, the London Metropolitan Police has failed to present Ibo and Fulani ethnic stocks in Nigeria, the UK or anywhere as victims of Mr. Shoyemi’s political activism on social media platforms and their impact statements.
(3) We urgently plead and request that Mr. Adeyinka “Grandson” Shoyemi should be availed all necessary medical treatment as a result of the physical abuse and beatings inflicted on him by the Prison Guards and thus save his life.
(4) Finally, we plead with The Rt. Hon Keir Starmer as Prime Minister of the UK to use his constitutional powers of prerogative of mercy to order the immediate release of Mr. Adeyinka “Grandson” Shoyemi from Aylesbury Prison and be deported back to his native Nigeria.
