The issue

Diabetes is a chronic condition affecting millions of Australians, requiring constant monitoring of blood glucose levels to manage effectively.

Overseas the Dexcom g6 is looking to be faced out.

We, the undersigned, urgently request that the Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system remain available in Australia.

The proposed transition to the Dexcom G7 CGM is causing serious concern within the diabetes community. Many users report that the G7 system is significantly less accurate for them, frequently disconnects, and fails to provide consistent real-time glucose data. These issues directly affect the safety and wellbeing of people who depend on reliable glucose monitoring to manage Type 1 and insulin-dependent Type 2 diabetes.

For many individuals, the Dexcom G6 has proven to be a stable, dependable, and life-saving device. Discontinuing access to the G6 forces vulnerable people to rely on a system that may not meet their medical needs. The loss of reliable CGM data can result in unrecognized hypoglycaemia or hyperglycaemia, potentially leading to severe complications, hospitalisation, or even death.

We therefore respectfully request that:

The Dexcom G6 remain available through the NDSS as an option for people who depend on its accuracy and reliability.
Users be given the choice between the G6 and G7, rather than being forced into a system that may jeopardise their health.
Further evaluation, transparency, and consultation occur before removing the G6 from the Australian market.
People living with diabetes deserve safe, accurate, and dependable tools to manage their condition. Removing the Dexcom G6 against the wishes and needs of the community puts lives at risk. We urge you to prioritise patient safety and uphold access to this essential device.
