Do not allow visuals of naked children in Art SG exhibition.

The Issue

I read with great concern the article "Art SG will finally open – and it looks splendid" Business Times 16 June 2022 by Helmi Yusof.

https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/lifestyle/arts/art-sg-will-finally-open-and-it-looks-splendid

The article a piece called “A Boy and Someone From Nowhere” by Thai artist Gongkan at Art Basel Hong Kong in May 2022. (naked boy with a hand from nowhere touching what appears to be his private part. One of the boy's hand seems to be on a computer screen, another hand is being grabbed by another hand from what appears to be the "internet") The artwork seems to depict online sexual preying / grooming of young children.

In my professional opinion as a musician, arts educator and artistic director (Launch of President's Challenge 2006), this degrades art. It is not Art, or Contemporary Art or whatever harmless name you want to give it.

I fail to understand how is a hand touching a little boy "Art" and why does it look splendid? Is this what SG "Art" has descended into? It looks more to me like child pornography or normalizing molestation.

I believe I stand with other concerned parents, educators and members of the public who do not condone such exhibits in an International Art Exhibition in our country, or the splashing of the artwork on the front page of our local newspaper in the name of Art.

We must protect our children and we must protect the name of Art here in this country and not allow sexual predators any reason / under the facade of art or exhibitions to prey on young, innocent children and to programme the public into similar such unacceptable behaviour of groping children online. There seems to be naked artwork of children behind the offending artwork as well.

We need to protect our kids from "someone from nowhere" touching their bodies.

I wonder if there will be any rating to this exhibition and if the government can moderate and look into the displays at this exhibition, the communications of such artwork via our local news network etc and to protect young and innocent children in our country.

We cannot hide crime behind Art. That is the bottom line.

Please sign and share this petition to protect our young people.
