Indiana has great potential to hold giant bucks. Unfortunately Firearm/Muzzleloader season are too long and too close to the rut. If you look at neighboring states like Ohio and Illinois they have giant deer and lots of them. I’ve hunted both places all public land. I’ve seen tons of deer and mature bucks just about daily in those states. I propose that we shorten Firearm season to just 7 days or be moved to the 2nd weekend after Veterans Day. Firearm season needs to be moved away from the rut. This will help put less stress on the deer herd during breeding season. My goal is not to take away from family’s or take away from gun hunters. Ideally keep season same length just move it back. I don’t have an issue with Firearm season or people that gun hunt, just when it takes place. Muzzleloader should also be shortened to 7 days. Non-resident license and tag price should be increased by 35%, in turn helping generate more revenue. Doing this will help younger bucks make it to maturity and a healthier deer herd in general.
