We are requesting the DMV to issue temporary license to the dependents of the visa holders to be able to drive on the receipt notice. The receipt notice is issued by USCIS while the case is being adjudicated which makes the receipt holders stay valid till the time allowed by the receipt. We have families to support and not having this license from DMV is not fair. They allow us to stay but does not allow us to drive. There is a provision that even undocumented immigrants get a license but not the ones who are legally staying here. Our families have young children, care taker adults and especially at the time of covid situation where the chances of emergencies are higher and we are trying to avoid public transport. By not giving the license we are being put to a situation of risk of not being able to support in times of need. So we urge the authorities to issue temporary licenses for the time which is allowed by the receipt or till our case gets adjudicated whichever is earlier.
