BREAKING: After more than 25 years behind bars for defending herself from her abusive husband, Latoya is finally coming home! We are thrilled to announce that after seven parole hearing denials, Latoya was finally granted parole in October 2023, transferred to the Arrendale Transitional Center in January 2024, and officially released from prison TODAY.

Although DA Patsy Austin-Gatson did not write a letter of support for Latoya, we are grateful to the more than 1,800 community members who supported Latoya’s release and to everyone who organized alongside us over the course of our 4 year campaign to fight for Latoya’s freedom. Together, we built enough community support to pressure the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole to release Latoya. Now after 25 years of unjust incarceration, Latoya is able to live in her home community among her family and friends, including her three daughters and eleven grandchildren.

We will be sharing details about how you can support Latoya in her re-entry in the coming days, including a GoFundMe Re-entry Fundraiser and an Amazon wishlist to help Latoya get back on her feet. Thank you to everyone who helped #BringLatoyaHome! Please follow us on Instagram @thedevicoop for more updates about next steps for Latoya's re-entry and our other survivor defense campaigns.

A message from Latoya:

“To all my supporters, my God this day has finally arrived. I first thank God for the opportunity to have a do-over. The opportunity to have a life I never had. To be not only a mother, but grandmother + great grandmother. Thank you all for your support, prayers & encouragement throughout the years. I am forever grateful for you have seen me through. October is Domestic violence awareness month. Thank God I am free. This is a new beginning for me & the ones to follow. Thank you!!!!! ❤️ & gratitude.”
