Thank you for supporting our petition. With your help, we got the attention of the local media, the D.A., and state legislators. Now, we need your help to change the law! Bobby Buckner has served his time for a 1995 child molestation and statutory rape case. He's not on parole, probation, or under any real supervision. He's registered as a "Sexually Dangerous Predator", and is a free man. But, what about his victims, the children? That's where we still need your help. Keep reading to find out how! D. A. Meg Heap cancelled her meeting with us before Buckner's release, but did reach out to us by phone. She said she supports our efforts, and has agreed to let us speak at the next meeting of the Family Violence Council, a group that's helped initiate changes in our state law. As Pam Howard-Oglesby stated in her Savannah Morning News' Letter to the Editor, we're pushing for two changes in the law: "1. Any and all sex offenders who attack any child/children 16 years and under, upon release from prison, will be prohibited from residing in the same county as their surviving victims." "2. Any and all sex offenders who attack any child/children 16 years and younger, upon conviction and sentencing, be given a “no contact” order automatically, to keep victims from being approached, spoken to, telephoned or e-mailed." "So, how can I help," you ask? Come July 8th, we'll present our agenda to the Family Violence Council. We need to hear from those of you who've been, or cared for, a sexually victimized child.
