Reaching out for help. Both schools here in Fort Smith have built new sports arena’s. Southside girls volleyball has had the privilege of playing in their new site all year long, as they should have. Unfortunately Northside’s new arena has had delays in the construction. Our girls were promised by the Fort Smith public schools athletic director that they would, at the minimum, would be able to play senior night in the new arena. Last night the athletic director brought our girls into the new arena to show off how beautiful it is. And it is an awesome sporting venue. They were then surprised with the announcement that they would not be allowed to play there this year. This is Charlie Brown in real life. Show these girls the football and get their hopes up just to pull the football out from under them. As you could imagine they were heartbroken because senior night is next week. The floor is ready to play on but the only hold back is all the seats aren’t in place. There ARE 900 seats that are ready. The volleyball team offered to pay a crew to remove all the construction stuff off the floor and replace it after the game. These girls have earned the right to play at least one home game in this new arena, but are being denied. I am asking for Fort Smith citizens to please contact the school administrators and demand that these girls get to play their last home game in the arena they were promised that they could play in.
