TBT article: Pasco judge disqualifies DeSantis-backed school board candidate, lawyers say
Previously : Al Hernandez, candidate for the Pasco County Florida School Board, did not reside in District 1 by June 17th, as required by Florida State Law. To uphold the integrity of our elections process, he should be disqualified from the August 23rd ballot or resign from the race.
The Tampa Bay Times published a story on June 30th that confirms this claim by Mr. Hernandez himself.
Does Pasco School Board candidate live in his district?
The Florida Election Commission (FEC) is currently investigating the matter, but further community support is needed to encourage the disqualification of Mr. Hernandez from the ballot or for Mr. Hernandez to resign from this race.
A follow up story, published by the Tampa Bay Times, detailed the FEC complaint filed by Jessica Jecusco-Wright, an FLVS teacher, and Pasco County, FL native.
Teacher files state complaint against Pasco School Board candidate
Mr. Hernandez is in violation of Florida Statute, Section 230.10, which provides that a candidate for school board must be a resident of the school board member residence area from which he seeks election at the time he qualifies.
The community of Pasco County and the students, staff, and parents of Pasco County Schools deserve representation from elected officials who are knowledgeable and passionate about local concerns. Mr. Hernandez does not live in District 1 and therefore has not shared in the specific community concerns and experiences of the residents of District 1.
If we cannot trust Mr. Hernandez to be honest, how can we trust him to lead our children and community?
Mr. Hernandez has been disqualified by Judge Barthle. We hereby call for the withdrawal of Mr. Hernandez and for the leaders that have supported him to redact their support to uphold the integrity of our elections process.
