The Issue

As a government employee, I've seen firsthand how disruptive a government shutdown can be. We, the workers, are compelled to perform our duties under strenuous circumstances, often without pay, while Congress can adjourn without facing the immediate repercussions. This imbalance of accountability needs to be addressed, ensuring that those in power also face consequences akin to what the average worker experiences during these tumultuous times.

Each time Congress fails to pass a budget on time, it plunges the country into chaos, affecting millions of hardworking individuals and families. Essential services halt, and the lives of federal employees, like myself, hang in limbo. Yet, the very leaders responsible for this disruption seldom face any personal or professional ramifications for their inaction.

It's time to hold those elected to serve us accountable. The responsibility of passing fiscal budgets and keeping the government operational directly lies with our Senators, House Representatives, and the President. Citizens should not bear the brunt of political stalemates, especially when it comes at the cost of their financial stability and livelihood.

We propose disqualifying any members of the House, the Senate, and even the President from seeking reelection if they allow a government shutdown to occur. Such a measure would compel our leaders to prioritize the essential work of governance over political maneuvering. By holding elected officials accountable, we can ensure they prioritize the needs of the nation and its people over partisan gridlock.

Please join us in demanding a change. Sign this petition to disqualify elected officials from reelection if they allow a government shutdown. Let us push for a government that prioritizes its workers and citizens above politics, ensuring a stable and functioning nation for all.
