Impulse pet sales are at a record high. Animals are then discarded shortly after. Every Rescue has a waiting list to take in these poor dumped animals. All animals sold in Pet shops are obtained from mass breeding warehouses. Buying from Pet shops contributes to the profit of the pet trade.
Small animals are labeled “Starter Pets” in Pet shops. This needs to be addressed, As they are not! Little or no information is given to the buyer upon purchase for the care of these animals. Not to mention habitats are way to small, And not acceptable. Soon after purchase these Animals will be surrendered to a Rescue due to lack of education and proper care.

Common Problems within the Trade industry are:

Proper Vet Care

Unsanitary living Conditions

Inhumane disposal of sick/Unwanted animals

Major issue of not correctly sexing small animals, Causing many unwanted litters.

Small animals labeled “Starter Pets”.

To say Animal Rescues are at capacity right now is an understatement. Many are Surrendered, Neglected, And Abused, Resulting in Emergency vetting. We have many in Rescue that were thrown out of moving car windows, Many found in Dumpsters, Garbage Cans, Many are found outside left to die. WE MUST DO BETTER!

As an owner of a Small Animal Rescue, I encourage Everyone to take a stand to change the legal Status for these Animals. The law as it stands considers animals to be Property (“Legal things”) instead of “ Legal persons”. This needs to change, So Anyone charged with Animal Cruelty can be held accountable. To many times these matters are “Dismissed “. These animals need us. Please help to provide and get the Animals the Protection they So deserve. Thank you for your Support. Adopt Don’t Shop!
