I am Leonie, I am 13 years old, as long as I can remember I'v strongly believed in treating all animals respect and fairness.
So you can only imagine my concern when I was watching one of my favourite programmes 'girl meets world' and I found that rodeos were portrayed in a way which was awful.
In the episode 'girl meets Texas' aired on Disney channel a while ago now. A rodeo was a big part of the plot, however I was incredibly, disappointed when the episode only addressed on the danger towards the participant who had a choice in the danger they put themselves in. However they did not at all address the agonising and terrible danger the bull (in this case) and other animals involuntary become involved in.
Not to mention various other films and other things such as toy story, that also portray rodeos in a very similar way.
Animals from rodeos suffer from fatal and very painful injuries including broken ribs, snapped necks, intrernal bruising to organs, torn muscles and ligaments, serious wounds and sometimes the most painful kind of death you can imagine. There is no thought needed that this is no way to treat any living creature.
By Disney supporting rodeos and ultimately animal cruelty it becomes more accepted in society, especialy among the younger generation which Disney is aimed at. If rodeos are confined to be portrayed by media this way we won't get anywhere.
I sent Disney channel an email a week ago voicing my concer on the matter however they are yet to reply.
I urge you to support the many animals that have to suffer through rodeos. And I urge Disney to stop supporting this cruelty!
