Demanding Accountability in Education: A Call to Action for Our Students

We, the concerned members of the community, stand united in our belief that our children deserve a high-quality education, one that empowers them to thrive and prepares them for the challenges of the future. However, we have witnessed a significant decline in the quality of education and professional standards within the Family Consumer Science curriculum at the West Side Career and Technology Center since Deborah Pride assumed her role as an educator. This deterioration is alarming and cannot be overlooked.

Ms. Pride has taken it upon herself to brand her classroom as “Pride Academy” and “Prideville.” While we appreciate the enthusiasm behind these names, they cannot compensate for the lack of substantive academic support and engagement that our students have experienced under her leadership. Instead of fostering an environment conducive to learning, Ms. Pride has created one where students feel lost and unsupported, making it increasingly difficult for them to succeed academically.

One of the most concerning aspects of this situation is the troubling reports that Ms. Pride is unable to complete the very assignments she assigns to her students. This raises serious questions about her academic capabilities and judgment as a teacher. It is disheartening and unacceptable to witness a lack of basic teaching skills in someone entrusted with the education and future of our children. As a result, we are seeing a marked decline in student performance, leading to a detrimental impact on their educational growth and aspirations.

These troubling incidents do not merely reflect a lapse in professionalism; they highlight a concerning lack of the necessary knowledge and expertise required of an educator in today’s academic landscape. Our students deserve a teacher who is not only well-prepared and knowledgeable but also genuinely committed to their success. We believe it is imperative that the relevant authorities take immediate and decisive action to address these issues. We demand the removal of Deborah Pride from her current teaching position at the West Side Career and Technology Center.
