Why Spain's Rizal Monument is more sacred than DMCI desecrated Rizal monument w/ Torre de Manila? There is an exact replica of the Rizal Monument in Madrid, Spain at the junction of Avenida de Las Islas Filipinas and Calle Santander..Seeing it made me feel as if i was in Luneta park again. it is the exact copy, except that this replica is a bit smaller but it looks more dignified because the skyline view is clear and there are no photo-bomber like the DMCI's 49-storey Torre de Manila.desecrating Philippine's Rizal monument and there were no guards beside standing below. on either side of the monument, you will find his famous poem, Mi Ultimo Adios in the original Spanish version and the Filipino translation. The Jose Rizal Monument in Madrid was erected during his centennial in 1996 and inaugurated 5th of December 2006. It is located in a busy street called Avenida de Filipinas ( The Phlippines Avenue) and near a Metro or Subway station called Islas de Filipinas. At the junction of Avenida de las Islas Filipinas and C/ Santander in Madrid, Spain, the Rizal monument stands. Built in 1996, it is a replica of the Rizal monument at the Luneta Park in Manila. The original monument was designed by a Swiss sculptor, Richard Kissling, and was one of the major winners in a contest during the American regime in the Philippines. During the Rizal birth centennial in 1961, some countries honored Rizal with markers and monuments. Heidelberg, Germany where Rizal spent some time in the 1880s, erected a modest but elegant statue in his honor, for making that city famous through his poem entitled “To the Flowers of Heidelberg.” Mexico City built a replica of the Rizal monument at the Luneta in their famous boulevard called Paseo de la Reforma. At that time, Spain refused to honor the Philippine hero because of the sentiment then that he was a traitor to the mother country, Spain. But times have changed. In a new spirit of broadened friendship between Spain and the Philippines, as well as a liberal view of why the latter launched a revolution, Rizal’s position has been elevated. He is not only a Filipino patriot; he is an exemplar of the best in the human race. And Spain itself is honored by Rizal’s presence here, for it is in this country that he developed his sensitivities and his scientific, artistic and literary skills — in Madrid, the heartland of the Empire. The “Rizal’s Madrid” walking tour is available as a booklet and includes a map and itinerary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYjRO3Z5Xe8 http://www.philembassymadrid.com/rizals-madrid http://www.mb.com.ph/ph-spain-boost-trade-security-ties/ http://www.filipinamom.com/index.php/jose-rizal-monument-in-madrid-0475 http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/photo/67678/pnoy-offers-wreath-at-rizal-monument-in-madrid
