Dismantle the Ketner's Mill Dam to Prevent Further Tragedies

Dismantle the Ketner's Mill Dam to Prevent Further Tragedies
The Issue
I've witnessed the heartbreak and devastation caused by the Ketner's Mill Dam in Whitwell, TN. Friends of mine have tragically drowned there, including a recent incident involving an innocent 17-year-old boy. This dam has claimed too many lives over the years and it is no longer needed for its original purpose.
The dam was built in 1882 for milling purposes but has long since ceased to serve any practical function. Yet, it continues to pose a significant risk to our community due to its dangerous currents and unpredictable water flow (source: Tennessee Valley Authority).
It's not just my personal experience that speaks volumes about this issue; statistics also paint a grim picture. According to data from the American Society of Civil Engineers, between 2005 and 2015 there were more than 1,000 fatalities at dams across America (source: ASCE Infrastructure Report Card). It is clear that unnecessary dams like Ketner’s Mill are not only obsolete but also hazardous.
We cannot stand by while our loved ones are put at risk by an outdated structure that serves no purpose other than being a deadly hazard. We urge local authorities in Whitwell, TN to take immediate action towards dismantling the Ketner's Mill Dam.
Please sign this petition if you believe in safeguarding our community from preventable tragedies. Let us ensure no more lives are lost senselessly at this location.
