Disenfranchised Culture, Stand with Augustine Romero

The Issue

Augustine Romero, a passionate artist, advocate, and voice for the Hispanic population has been unjustly removed from his office at the South Broadway Cultural Center, as well as the curator of the Kimo. He has been pivotal in shaping many well-known New Mexican artists' careers. He's not just an administrator; he's transformed galleries into spaces that celebrate the rich tapestry of La Gente heritage, providing opportunities for our talented artists to shine and our VOICE to be heard.

The removal of Augustine Romero is more than a personnel change; it's a threat to the representation of OUR culture in the arts. By signing this petition, you're advocating for inclusivity, diversity, and the preservation of our unique Albuquerque identity.

Augustine’s removal is a significant loss to our community and appears to be part of a wider pattern of discriminatory practices within city policies. His contributions have been instrumental in promoting OUR culture in Albuquerque's art scene. We must stand against such actions that undermine our community leaders who are working tirelessly to uplift local talent.

We call on Mayor Keller and those responsible for this decision to reconsider their stance and reinstate Augustine Romero back into his rightful position. This action would not only rectify an injustice but also send a strong message against racial discrimination within our city’s institutions.

Please sign this petition if you believe in standing up and supporting leaders like Augustine who contribute so much to our local culture and arts scene. This is our city, and he is our representation! What they have done to him, they have done to us.
