Start Whale Week

The Issue

I propose a week long event like Shark Week where TV shows and movies would be played related to whales. The purpose would be to educate the audience about whaling, captivity, the lives the animals live in the wild, and the near extinction many of these animals face. Movies and television shows featured could be Blackfish, Whale Wars, At the Edge of the World, and The Whale.
I started this petition, because I want to educate the public about the impact we have on whales, and the impact they have on us. Not only do we hunt these creatures to near extinction, we keep them captive in marine parks, and destroy their natural habitat. Many people do not know about the lives whales live. Whales are mysterious and intimidating making the general public fear and know very little about them.
If Discovery Channel did a Whale Week, we could learn more about these wild creatures and how to help them. Their population is dwindling, their envirnment is dying, and we use them as entertainment in a pool a billionth the size of their natural home. These animals have an impact on our lives, and everything on the planet is intertwined. If the whales die out, what will happen?
We need to make people care, love, and learn about these magnificent creatures if we hope for any change and wish to keep the whales alive. "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -Nelson Mandela
