Disagree With Changing Short Day to Thursday: Folsom Cordova School District

The Issue

The Folsom Cordova School District is considering changing the short day of the week to Thursday for Folsom High School and Vista Del Lago next school year (2024-2025). This proposed change has not been well-received by a significant number of students who believe it will disrupt their weekly routines and extracurricular activities. Wednesdays for Vista have traditionally served as a midweek break, allowing students to catch up on assignments and prepare for the rest of the week. Furthermore Folsom  appreciates shorter Fridays as it is something to look forward to at the end of the week. Shifting this day to Thursday would disrupt the well liked schedule, potentially increasing stress levels among students. According to American Psychological Association, high school students report stress levels that exceed healthy amounts during school year (American Psychological Association). We must prioritize our student's mental health and wellbeing over administrative convenience. We urge Folsom Cordova School District officials to reconsider this decision and maintain our traditional short day of the week. Please sign this petition if you stand with us in preserving our current academic schedule for the benefit of all students in our district.
