For no retest or re-evaluation of MBA CET 2015 and advancing to CAP Rounds as soon as possible

The Issue

We stand by DTE's evaluation of MBA CET 2015 and say that no retest or re-evaluation is needed. We will stand by DTE if the PIL for retest goes to court.

The following points have been considered for this appeal

1.      Normalisation process is same as applied last year.

That is a correct point. Normalisation is done to ensure that each slot has equal probability of getting good candidates. It is considered that there are equal number of fairly good students in each slot as the distribution of students was random. Now if a particular slot is comparatively easy. Then, if we consider only the raw marks, all students from this slot will have an undue advantage because students from other slots will not be able to score as many marks as that of the given slot. So, NORMALISATION IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY TO GIVE CANDIDATES FROM EACH SLOT EQUAL SHOT AT A GOOD COLLEGE.

2.      Percentile comparison

It is unjust to draw conclusion from the no of students from 100 to 99 percentile that the slot 2,3,4 people were not competent. It is a given fact that due to random allocation, each slot has more or less equal number of good candidates. The less number of people in the given percentile for each slot only highlights the fact that the slot was comparatively tougher than the other slots. IT IS NOT CORRECT STATISTICALLY NOR MORALLY TO JUDGE THAT SINCE NUMBER OF PEOPLE ARE LESS, THEY ARE NOT COMPETENT.

3.      Evaluation Procedure is fair

THE EVALUATION PROCEDURE USED BY DTE IS FAIR AND DOES NOT GIVE ANY SLOT UNDUE ADVANTAGE. It is the method that was used last year too and the years before that.
Similar protest were raised against CAT and SNAP too in recent years, but they did not do anything about it. DTE has already done their job by publishing all scores and the evaluation procedure in detail.

4.      Comparing people from within slot

This is one way of ensuring that if a slot is comparatively easier, considering the raw scores does not affect the people from other slots. What if slot 1 is easy and 100 students score 150+ whereas slot 4 is tough and only 30 students score 150+? Do we only consider these 130 students for CAP? What about the other 70 students from slot 4 who have less marks just because the slot was comparatively tougher? Don't they deserve to be in a reputed and good college? Slot 1 people say that our slot had high toppers as all those who registered on first day were serious about the exam and all got Slot 1. This is entirely untrue as there are students who have registered on the first day but got later slots.

5.      University Exams

Many of the students have to appear for their university exams of Graduation and a retest will affect their performance in these exams.

6.      Problems with server etc. Were faced by everybody

Every slot had some glitches and problems with server etc. So, IT IS NOT ONLY SLOT 1 HAD ALL THE PROBLEMS. In spite of all of it, those who deserved have scored the right marks. Any re-evaluation for slot 1 will be injustice to other slots.

7.      Too much time wasted on the 19 questions which were highest among all slots

There are instances where people of SLOT 1 have boasted to complete the paper well before time and people in other slots claiming to have made genuine attempts of about 170-180. So if we consider that, the entire argument of FAIR CHANCE OF ANSWERING EQUAL QUESTIONS and injustice is based on hollow assumptions.

8.      Adding scores to Slot 1

Suppose DTE gives them their 20-30 marks, then the present toppers of Slot 1 will exceed their net total of 200 marks which is preposterous.

9.      Difference in Percentile

As seen from the snapshot, the difference in percentile is due to different number of people who have scored maximum marks. Once all the criteria of ranking (Considering 12th score, 10th score etc.) Are considered, each slot topper will have equal percentile

10.  After Retest

There is no guarantee that after a re-test and consequent declaration of results, there won’t be any protest again. This is endless.

11.  Considering raw scores is not right

This is clearly an advantage to slot 1 as they have more marks. It is clearly visible that by pushing for raw scores they are trying to tip the balance in their favour.

Some unsatisfied students do not represent the majority. The people who are demanding a retest or re-evaluation are the ones who are dissatisfied with their result. Everyone from slot 1 to 4 studied for the exam and no one was incompetent. That is clearly visible from the marks in each slot. How can slot 1 people say that slot 2 people were all incompetent but only lucky when the distribution of students was random.

If they felt that there was so much mismanagement they should have pushed the authorities to do something before declaration of results. Why all the havoc now? Doesn’t this clearly demonstrate that not the glitches but the result has ticked them off?

When we had raised our concerns over how Slot 1 people will score more marks, they had said normalisation will play it's part. Now when normalisation has been done and the scores are not as per expectations, they want a retest.

It is easy to paint our self the victim than accept that we are not good enough. That is what is being done by people who have not scored good marks. DTE is being blackmailed and pressurised whereas it was clear from DTE's side how the evaluation is going to be done.

Please don't have a retest or a re-evaluation as 57000 people are waiting for CAP rounds. A retest will work against the careers of all these.
