The Issue
Sorry to trouble you all but I was hoping you guys would help me and my family out. On 2nd of May 2021 my sister was a victim of a heinous crime, committed in the hands of her abusive boyfriend. My sister is not only my sister, but she’s also my bestfriend, who was an abusive relationship. Time after time we warned her to leave her relationship, but as many of you know, victims in abusive relationships often find it difficult to leave. Long story short the monster of a boyfriend tried to kill her a week ago.
It all began when my sister found out that her boyfriend was cheating on her. My sister called the young woman whom he was cheating on her with. When he arrived at their shared home in Dublin, my sister was on the phone with the young woman, she confronted her then boyfriend while the young woman was still on the phone. My sister finally got the courage to leave this man and said enough was enough. She told him she was leaving and that’s when the situation turned for the worst. She was on her way out in the street when this horrific scene took place. This man, intentionally found a broken glass so he could use it to cut my sister’s throat. To any sane person, this is gruesome and unthinkable, this monster used charred glass to slit my sister’s throat wide open. While this was happening the young woman was on the phone listening to my sister screaming for help. She cut the phone and rang back just to check if my sister wasn’t badly hurt, as she wasn’t aware of exactly what was happening. However, when she rang back it wasn’t my sister that answered the phone as she was laying on the ground bleeding, left for dead. Instead, this barbaric man answered the phone and tried to convince the young woman not to call for help or report him to the police, as he was sure he would persuade my sister not to press any charges.
Thankfully the young woman refused to listen to this monster and cut the phone on him and proceeded to call for the ambulance and the police. By the grace of God, someone in the neighbouring house had already called for the police while this was happening and they arrived on scene just in time to assist my sister. The annoying thing about this is that, this is not the first time this barbaric man has stabbed a young woman. He previously stabbed a different girl at a New Year’s Eve party last December 2020. Somehow he managed to convince the young woman he stabbed at that party not to press charges. Clearly this man has a history of violence against women, which I can attest to as my sister would be battered and bruised from time to time when we spoke on Facetime. Even then she would make excuses for him and said she would handle it.
To be quite honest, anger is not the word, to describe how everyone who loves and adores my sister Queen, is feeling right now. To make matters worse for my sister, friends and family who would like to see this man held accountable for his barbaric actions, the Director of Public Prosecution Ireland is refusing to charge this man with attempted murder or at the very least Grievous Bodily Harm. This monster is only being charged with assault.
It is very insulting to my sister and my family that DPP Ireland are refusing justice for Queen. What kind of example are DPP setting for victims and survivors of domestic abuse? It makes me wonder if my sister was blond-haired with blue eyes whether DPP Ireland would have thought of her as more vulnerable then. When I say my beloved sister almost died, it’s not an exaggeration. What is it going to take for the DPP Ireland to take a stand against someone who tried to commit murder? Is the hospital record that shows how close to death my sister was not enough for the DPP Ireland, to charge this man accordingly? Does DPP Ireland want other women in coffins for them to do the right thing? More importantly what message is the DPP Ireland sending to victims of abuse?
Thankfully my sister is out of the ICU and on the way to recovery. However, she has lost the ability to use her right arm and the right side of her body due to the injuries sustained when when this barbaric man tried to murder her. We are hopeful and praying that she will be fully healed, but the nerve system on her righthand side is completely damaged, it's a 50/50 chance whether her right side will be able to function as normal. At the moment we are just thankful that she alive and on her way to recovery. I’m just hoping that you guys will help and make the DPP Ireland come to their sense and do the right thing for Queen and all the victims of domestic abuse.
