Direct Traffic at Panther Creek

Direct Traffic at Panther Creek

The Issue

The Students and Parents of Panther Creek are concerned for the safety of ourselves and our peers. Our new security guard is not directing traffic, causing students to be late and put in DANGER every day. Students leave early and end up arriving late only to receive an unexcused tardy even if they are in the same line as buses. If students on buses are late and it is excused, why should separate drivers in the same line be held to a different standard?

Drivers turning left never get an opportunity to enter the school because of traffic going straight at 35 MPH or higher. We need a security guard to direct traffic to ensure the safety of these drivers and passengers in those cars. There have already been incidents that have come close to becoming car crashes. We should NOT wait until something tragic happens to one of our peers to act upon this situation. Most Panther Creek drivers are new drivers. These drivers have to wait until a brief moment might occur where incoming traffic is halted long enough for them to turn. If even one driver miscalculates the timing, our entire student body will be impacted because of the loss. This IS preventable!!

Many students have brought this to the attention of the Administration Staff, only to be brushed off. We, as students, care about being on time. We, as students, also care about being SAFE and the safety of our fellow students. This is why we attempted to bring it to your attention. We expect that if we show that as a student body, care about this issue, it will be resolved.

Previously, we had a security guard who directed traffic and it worked perfectly. This change has only placed students in harm's way.

We ask that you, as the Administration Staff of Panther Creek High School or Town of Cary Traffic Department, will provide students with a safe way to enter the student parking lot by having a security guard to direct traffic.
