A Call to Action: Support Mental Health First Aid for Our Veterans

With a heavy heart, we share the tragic story of El Paso veteran Rob Renz, a true Texas gentleman who sadly took his own life on January 10th in the parking lot of an El Paso Veterans Affairs facility. Rob's mother, Nikki, has bravely spoken out about her son's battle with PTSD, tinnitus, and insomnia, stating that he had been trying to get help.
 
On that fateful day, Rob visited the VA seeking assistance but ultimately felt overwhelmed by the struggles; he saw no way out. "He must have felt there was no end in sight, and he shot himself in the parking lot," reads the family website dedicated to his memory.
 
As a nation, we pride ourselves on our military prowess and ability to win wars abroad. However, it's time we turn our attention to the battle at home – the fight for the lives and well-being of our veterans. One veteran suicide is too many, and the numbers we see today are nothing short of a tragedy.
