Dignity for Malvern Road
The Issue
Malvern Road and Chippenham Gardens are suffering from persistent litter, inadequate street cleaning, neglected public spaces, damaged pavements and kerbs, and poor road maintenance.
Malvern Road is a prime example of a wider pattern of neglect across South Kilburn, but by no means the only one. While regeneration transforms parts of the area, residents elsewhere are living with deteriorating streets and public spaces. On the partially emptied South Kilburn council estate, residents face criminal activity and anti-social behaviour alongside the ongoing neglect of their surroundings. The cumulative impact is pushing our community to the brink.
Brent Council, who signed a multi-million pound contract with Veolia, states that it aims to maintain streets at Grade B cleanliness or above, but the condition of Malvern Road regularly falls well below this standard.
Residents are asking Brent Council to:
- provide consistent street cleansing,
- properly maintain Chippenham Gardens,
- repair damaged roads and pavements,
- address the neglect and conditions that allow criminal activity and anti-social behaviour to persist,
- and ensure that the public services and contracted cleansing standards funded by council taxpayers are actually delivered in our neighbourhood.
We deserve to have some dignity restored to Malvern Road, and to every South Kilburn street facing the same neglect. Regeneration should benefit the whole community.
