Our petition has reached the DMV!

Dear All,
I have been communicating with the president of the DMV, Prof. Dr. Ilka Agricola, and a long-term member of the council of the DMV, Prof. Dr. Günter M. Ziegler, about the petition, and I wanted to share a summary of our discussions with you. They were both very supportive of the petition and pointed out that the other council members also had the same attitude. In addition, the president of DMV was very kind to make time for an online meeting with me, in her busy schedule, to discuss the issue in detail. I am grateful for this friendly and inspiring chat.
Here is the summary of the situation:
First of all, the DMV has tried to change the name two times, the last time was in 2012 when the members voted, and it failed (also note that only 30% of the members participated in voting in 2012). Therefore, the council is now cautious about not failing again. Moreover, only DMV members have the legal power to change the association's name; a vote result with a 2/3 majority is necessary to make it happen. In summary, it is essential that people who want to make a change are members with voting power in the association, making the majority. Therefore, I decided to become a member and invite you all to do so.
The good news is that our petition will be mentioned in the opening message of the next issue of DMV Mitteilungen! Many thanks to Prof. Dr. Ilka Agricola for the support she shows by including the point in her letter.
Lastly, all these were only possible thanks to your precious support! I hope to see most of you as DMV members taking the next step toward the change. In any case, your support in this petition is valuable and will be helpful to back up the arguments in the context of the issue.
Best regards,
Büşra
