The German Mathematical Society "Die Deutsche Mathematiker-Vereinigung (DMV)" supports the old gender-exclusive tradition by using "Mathematiker" instead of "Mathematiker*innen" in its name. One cannot expect a significant change in the state of gender discrimination in academia in the mathematics community, while a prominent association such as the DMV does not take the necessary steps towards changing it. German Research Foundation DFG enforces guidelines for gender-inclusive language in research. However, the DMV, an association that represents researchers, does not apply them in its name.

The German Mathematical Society should be renamed as "Die Deutsche Mathematiker*innen-Vereinigung".
