Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve has been an American television staple for over 40 years, and I have grown up watching it every year from birth. However, every year I've noticed one thing missing from every one of its broadcasts: Randy Newman. Since this discovery I've made it tradition to listen to my one and only copy of Little Criminals on vinyl every New Year's Eve since 2014, but since then I've yearned to see him perform on my television, sharing the stage with Ryan Seacrest and that big, beautiful orb in Times Square. In addition to listening to Randy Newman's music, I've dedicated my entire twitter through the whole month of December to an alternate, yet entirely possible, reality in which Randy Newman is at Rockin' Eve. Header, icon, and tweets all structured after the Rockin' Eve twitter, but heavily themed after Randy Newman. I am fully committed to an appearance by Randy Newman at this event, and yet he hasn't performed nor have I been recognized for my efforts over the last eight years.

Mr. Newman is both an Oscar and Emmy award winning singer/songwriter, with a career dating back over 50 years, and having written many classic songs and composed the scores to countless films, he deserves to perform at least once on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve. The beloved artist behind such hits as I Love LA, Short People, You've Got a Friend in Me, and 2017's Putin would be a hit! Quite frankly, I think it is a crime that, despite having written music for nine Disney/Pixar animated films, Randy Newman has never performed on the ABC program, despite the fact the Disney is their parent company! It should be a cinch for them to book him! Randy Newman has his hit song I Love LA, so it would make sense for him to perform/host the Hollywood countdown! Or even the New Orleans countdown, in reference to his song Louisiana 1927!

Now is probably the best time for a Randy Newman performance at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve! Not only has Randy Newman done the music for 2019's Disney/Pixar (Disney is the parent company of ABC) release Toy Story 4 and the Noah Baumbach film Marriage Story, he's also featured on the song 5 Year Plan on Chance the Rapper's 2019 album The Big Day. Not only is this an excellent opportunity to have Randy Newman finally perform on stage at Rockin' Eve, but it's also a great time to have Chance the Rapper perform alongside today's hottest artists, too! It's a match made in heaven! Randy Newman at Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve has the potential to be the event of the year. Even if Randy Newman only performs one of his songs, or even just as part of a live 5 Year Plan performance with Chance the Rapper, I'm sure Randy's fans will still be pleased just seeing him on Dick Clark's classic program.

This year may even be the best time to do it! Considering how poorly the US has handled the COVID-19 pandemic, something as big as Rockin' Eve might still be hard to hold safely in-person, considering how packed Times Square is every year, so virtual performances might still be needed. Randy can perform from the comfort of his own home! If Randy is busy on New Year's Eve, he can pre-record a performance! The possibilities are endless!
