Save Barrington Park for Vets and the Community
The Issue
We are community members who use the Barrington Recreation Center and Dog Park. It has recently come to our attention that the VA is requesting the the land back from the city potentially jeopardizing the crucial area for the community. We, of course, support the overall “master plan" of building housing for vets. However, based on the initial master plan this area which currently accommodates a dog park and playing fields for children is simply meant to be “green space." . We would request that the “green space” incorporates the dog park and playing fields. Obviously, a park that an entire community can enjoy will help integrate the community as a whole and build better cooperation and understanding among diverse demographics. There are many vets and widows of vets who already utilize this area by bringing their dogs to the park to play or come to watch their children and grandchildren play on the soccer fields, or to just go for a jog on the fields. THIS PARK IS VITAL in this area for community integration.
Just the other day I was speaking to a vet who said he enjoyed coming to the park to watch the dogs play and sit in the sun. He said he found it relaxing and enjoyed talking with everyone there….
If the city of Los Angeles and the VA cannot come to terms, we ardently request that the City of Los Angeles find new space to accommodate the community in a timely fashion.
