Currently CA has some of the highest-kill so-called "shelters" in the country.  We would like to get an initiative on the November 2016 Ballot here in CA that 1)Gives animals status as sentient, feeling, thinking beings, and 2) to make ALL shelters here NO-KILL.  The shelters here in California simply MUST be made to work much harder to find homes for ALL  the adoptable animals; they must extend the hold time on all adoptable animals to give them time to be adopted; and they must give the animals comfortable and humane surroundings in the shelter cages themselves. This petition can help to put an initiative with all these goals on the November Ballot here in California and will be sent to Alex Padilla, Secretary of State for CA when enough signatures are gathered.

I am a CA native and resident and I am ashamed at the state of our shelters and our attitude towards shelter animals in such a so-called "progressive" state!
