The Issue

Petition directed to: William DeWitt Jr., William DeWitt III, and the St. Louis Cardinals Ownership Group

The St. Louis Cardinals are more than a baseball team. They are one of the most storied franchises in Major League Baseball, built on championship traditions, organizational excellence, and generations of loyal fans.

For decades, Cardinals baseball represented something special. The Birds on the Bat symbolized pride, accountability, and an expectation that every season began with one objective: competing for a World Series championship.

That standard has been lost, and Cardinals fans have had enough.

Under the DeWitt family's ownership, the Cardinals celebrated World Series championships in 2006 and 2011. Those accomplishments deserve recognition. But past success does not excuse the direction of this franchise today.

Instead of demanding immediate competitiveness, ownership has embraced organizational transitions, rebuilding plans, and promises of future success.

We are tired of being asked to accept losing today in exchange for the possibility of winning tomorrow.

The Responsibility Starts at the Top

Chaim Bloom and Oli Marmol must be held accountable for the direction of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Chaim Bloom's record should alarm every Cardinals fan who remembers what championship baseball looks like. Despite spending 15 years in Tampa Bay's front office and four seasons running baseball operations for the Boston Red Sox, Bloom has never won a World Series as the head of a Major League baseball operation.

In Boston, he traded away superstar Mookie Betts, and the Red Sox finished last in the American League East three times during his four-year tenure. His reputation for developing prospects and rebuilding farm systems does not erase those failures at the Major League level.

Now the DeWitt family has handed him control of one of baseball's most historic franchises.

The St. Louis Cardinals are not a minor league development project. They are an 11-time World Series championship franchise, and their fans deserve championship-caliber leadership, not another prolonged rebuilding experiment.

Oli Marmol's continued presence as manager is equally troubling. Cardinals fans deserve a manager who demonstrates leadership, demands accountability, and produces results. We have seen enough excuses, disappointing baseball, and promises that improvement is just around the corner. The standards of this franchise must be higher.

We believe both Bloom and Marmol should be replaced. But the problem goes deeper than either man.

The DeWitt family hired and retained the leadership responsible for the team's direction. Ownership sets the budget, determines organizational priorities, and ultimately decides whether winning championships remains the franchise's highest objective.

Replacing Bloom or Marmol alone will not restore the Cardinals' winning tradition if the same ownership continues to accept diminished expectations.

That is why this petition demands more than another managerial change or front-office restructuring.

We are calling on the DeWitt family to sell the St. Louis Cardinals to an ownership group determined to restore championship baseball to St. Louis.

Cardinals Fans Deserve More Than Corporate Promises
We understand that Major League Baseball is a business. We understand the importance of financial responsibility and developing young talent.

But the Cardinals should never become an organization where financial efficiency matters more than competitive excellence.

Generations of fans have invested their money, time, and loyalty in this franchise. They have filled Busch Stadium, supported the team through difficult seasons, and celebrated its greatest achievements.

That loyalty is earned. It is not guaranteed.

We do not expect a World Series championship every year.

We expect an ownership group determined to compete for one every year.

Our Demand: Sell the St. Louis Cardinals

It is time to get the hell out of the way. Take your $2 billion valuation, cash out, and sell the St. Louis Cardinals to an ownership group that actually possesses the fire, the resources, and the pride required to win.

We call upon William DeWitt Jr., William DeWitt III, and the current ownership group to pursue the sale of the St. Louis Cardinals to new owners who will:

Make championship contention the organization's highest competitive priority.
Commit the financial and organizational resources necessary to build a consistently competitive Major League roster.
Demand accountability from baseball operations, management, and field leadership.
Respect the loyalty and financial commitment of Cardinals fans.
Restore the standards of excellence that made the St. Louis Cardinals one of baseball's most respected franchises.
Make a firm, binding commitment to keeping the St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis permanently. This franchise belongs to the city and generations of loyal fans, and relocation must never be an option!

Cardinals Nation: Make Your Voice Heard
The DeWitt family owns the team, but the Cardinals' history and traditions belong to generations of fans.

Our loyalty is to the St. Louis Cardinals, not to any particular owner, executive, or manager.

If the DeWitt family no longer shares our determination to see this franchise compete for championships, then it is time for new ownership.

We call on every Cardinals fan who believes this franchise deserves better to sign this petition and share it with fellow fans.

Let ownership see that our passion for Cardinals baseball has not disappeared, even if our confidence in its leadership has.

Sell the team. Restore the tradition. Put winning first.

Sincerely,

John Weitzman

Lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan since age six — proudly following the Birds on the Bat since the World Series era of the 1960s.
