Redevelopment of Punjabi Camp Sion Koliwada and Housing for Thousands Punjabis threatened.
The Issue
1,200 Punjabi Families, 5,000 Human Lives (majority senior citizens) are under the threat of going homeless in the City of Dreams which they call it their Home.
Around 5,000 people on low side count i.e. 1200 Punjabi Families in the vicinity of GTB Nagar, Punjabi Camp, Sion Koliwada are under the threat of going Homeless because their 25 Buildings have been declared as "Dangerous to Live" by the BMC with no proper instructions and policy in line to go redevelopment.
Last year December 2015 a dozen of Bulldozers accompanied by a Team of Policemen and BMC officials had reprimanded the locals to vacate the place. This drama has been continuing over a year now but no solution has been provided to us despite running to the Collector Office, CM office (Mantralaya) and even approaching the local MLA.
There is no proper policy laid down for redevelopment of our area however we are being threatened and harassed mentally to vacate the flat or face the consequences as per the local authorities. The Residents too want the development but are being helpless because there has been No Policy formulated by the Cabinet for Redevelopment of Refugee Camps ( i.e the land allotted in the year 1947). There is delay from the Government's end; however the residents and commuters would face the consequences of the laxity if any unforeseen event happened.
We want help from all of you to avert the trauma of going homeless because the government isn't paying any heed to our cry. Please help us by signing this petition and request Government to formulate the policy & let #PunjabiCamp develop.
