Wadala has several schools and some renowned institutions like Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), The University Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly The University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT)), Vidyalankar Institute of Technology(VIT), South India Welfare Society (S.I.W.S), Auxilium Convent High School and Khalsa College, located near one another. SNDT Women's University, Dr. Ambedkar Commerce & Law College also has a campus in Wadala West. The local college of Wadala is SIWS near the Wadala station. The largest bus depot in Mumbai, BEST's Wadala depot, is located here.

It also houses one of India's most renowned eye hospitals, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital along with the BPT Hospital and the Ackworth Leprosy Hospital. The Ackworth Leprosy Hospital was established during British rule, and part of its complex is now given to an AIDS awareness organisation as well. The world's first methane generation plant was set up in the Ackworth hospital complex.

Wadala village lay on one of the Seven Islands of Bombay that were joined together to form the modern day Mumbai. Wadala is also known for its temples, churches, and dargas. Near this iconic station there is a 400-year-old Vitthal Temple built by Sant Tukaram who brought this holy idol from Shree Shetra Pandharpur. This temple is also known as Prati Pandharpur Vitthal Mandir, Wadala.

Vitthal Mandir is one location in itself. During Ashadi Ekadashi lakhs of devotees come to worshiphere, including who’s who from film industry, politics film stars and politicians from different parts of the city. Large number of devotes are from Varkari Sampraday. Today this place has become synonymous with the name of Lord Vitthal standing witness to it’s rich culture and heritage.

Over last decade development gave rise to increase in the real estate value of the locality and for interest of few people who want to earn big from increasing real estate prices want to name the new monorail station as Dadar east even though this said area does not even fall in Dadar. When requested with authorities to name the said station as Vitthal Mandir (name this is place is synonymous with) they give excuses of incurring lot of expenses.

Friends I request you to please sign my petition to name current Dadar east monorail station as Prati Pandharpur Vitthal Mandir, Wadala.. We as residents of this place we feel deep attachment to this place.
