Following a recent schoolyard tour, our students have become deeply concerned about the environmental impact of our transportation choices. Even though our school is making positive strides in other areas of environmental stewardship, one image stands out, starkly pointing to an area ripe for improvement: empty bike racks and a parking lot teeming with cars. Our students have seen the need, formulated a plan, and are now advocating for change.

We are calling on local authorities and our school board to facilitate the creation of bike lanes and sidewalks within our Accokeek community. It is a project that our students are passionate about, geared to cater to their safety needs whilst tackling environmental concerns. By enabling students, and indeed other community members, to walk or ride bikes to school and local businesses without risk, we take a progressive stand to promoting a greener, thriving community.

Creating alternative, accessible transportation helps make our students' daily commute safer, healthier, and environmentally conscious. We urge you to support our proposition and help us turn a simple act of going to school into a transformative experience that values the well-being of our students and the environment.
