The Issue

We are a growing community of volleyball players in Montgomery County, Maryland, asking for the development of a dedicated multi-court beach volleyball facility similar to the courts at Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC.

Many local players currently travel to DC to play because Montgomery County has very limited beach volleyball options. While a few single courts exist, they do not support consistent open play, group games, leagues, or a strong volleyball community.

To better understand demand, we conducted a local survey and collected over 160 responses from players across Montgomery County. Many respondents report playing multiple times per week and currently traveling to DC due to the lack of local multi-court facilities.

An active local community has already formed, with players organizing regular games through a local WhatsApp group. Players from Rockville, Wheaton, Silver Spring, Potomac, and surrounding areas are already meeting to play — demonstrating that this demand is real and ongoing.

We are asking Montgomery Parks and county officials to consider creating a multi-court beach volleyball space that would:

•  Support regular open play and community recreation
•  Provide a local alternative to traveling into DC
•  Encourage healthy, active lifestyles
•  Create a welcoming sports community for adults and families
•  Meet the needs of a growing volleyball population in Montgomery County

If you support having beach volleyball courts closer to home, please sign this petition and share it with others.

If you play volleyball, feel free to mention how often you play or why this matters to you.
