Prime Minister Mark Carney’s current visit to China is a crucial and timely step for Canada. As China remains Canada’s second-largest trading partner, this visit offers an opportunity to rebuild proactive, forward-looking diplomatic and trade relationships—while maintaining a careful and strategic balance with our largest trading partner and other global partners.

Canada’s prosperity depends on this balancing act. Strong global engagement must be matched with strong domestic capacity. That is precisely why this petition—calling for the development of 10 new regional cities across Canada serving as a pilot national initiative to diversify and expand domestic growth and international trade—is more urgent than ever.

If Canada is to benefit from renewed trade and investment relationships, we must be ready to:

  • Expand production-based economic growth at home
  • Build resilient manufacturing, agri-food, clean tech, and resource-processing hubs
  • Reduce over-reliance on a few major urban centres
  • Strengthen supply chains to support balanced and sustainable trade.

New regional cities can serve as engines of productivity, innovation, and inclusive growth—positioning Canada to engage confidently with the United States, China and all other partners without prejudice, while firmly protecting Canadian interests.

Diplomacy opens doors. Domestic development determines who benefits.

Canada will prosper only by undertaking balanced global leadership combined with bold nation-building at home.
