Rename the new Red Wings stadium AWAY from "Little Caesar's Arena"

The Issue

On April 28, 2016, the Detroit Red Wings announced that their new,  Publicly-Funded stadium will bear the moniker "Little Caesar's Arena".  This name, in addition to lacking mass appeal, is a blatant corporatization of a beloved Detroit organization. After decades of playing in iconic venues such as the Olympia and Joe Louis Arena, the Red Wings will now have a bloated pizza advertisement as their home. It is hard to see this as anything other than the erosion of a beloved Original Six franchise into just one more enterprise dedicated to extracting maximum dollars from its supporters and community.

Given the amount of money provided by the cash-strapped city to fund this development, it seems only right that the name should represent the proud tradition of the Red Wings and Greater Detroit. This petition asks that Olympia Entertainment reconsider their choice of name and select one that better represents their fans, city, and organization. The Red Wings have been a pillar of the Detroit community for years, and we ask that they reflect that spirit of community in the name that they choose to represent themselves with. Please sign and pass on this petition; reclaiming sports as a communal, people-centered enterprise begins with YOU!

If you'd like to reach out directly to the Red Wings, you can find the contact info for the Manager of Public Relations here (I'd share the email address directly, but I think it violates the Change.org community guidelines) or submit a comment to the organization here.
