Do not bother renewing your OCI card!

Upon learning that more than few families that I know successfully traveled to India (as recently as during the summer of 2016) with children (under 21 years of age) carrying renewed US passports, old passports (with U visa on them) and original OCI cards (not renewed), I have concluded that it is not worth bothering about this unrealistic, impractical and "only good on paper" rule that is not implemented at the immigration check points in India (rightfully so). Even the Bureau of Immigration website has posted the provision that carrying renewed foreign passports, old passports (with U visa on them) and original OCI cards is sufficient. However, we must keep protesting this rule until the government of India at least makes the renewal process as simple as it should be - requiring only the original OCI card, new photos, old passport and new passport, along with the nominal processing fee and application form. There should be no notarization required either.
