An outrageous anti-NRI policy by the Indian government has been in place since 2006 but has recently been posted as a "Travel Advisory" on the Indian consulate websites. Under this policy Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) card/visa, which has a LIFETIME VALIDITY endorsed by the same government, now requires reissuing EVERY TIME when the OCI visa/card holder's US passport is renewed before 21 years of age and once after 49 years of age! This means the OCI card holders are required to go through the entire process of applying for OCI card/visa ALL OVER AGAIN , every time when their foreign passport is renewed:

Applying for an OCI card/visa renewal/reissue has been made an extremely cumbersome, tedious and lengthy process, requiring tons of paperwork every time, again and again, as if applying for the first time, and then having to wait for two long months just to get OCI card reissued: Outrageously enough, the same policy does not apply for a 10 year tourist visa, EVEN when US passport is renewed! The OCI reissue requirement, discriminating against OCI visa/card holders is in direct contradiction to Prime Minister Mr. Modi's claim to make immigration to India NRI-friendly. This policy is not NRI-friendly at all, but on the contrary it is very anti-NRI.

I am appealing all NRIs to sign this petition, and also share it with everyone in every possible way to make it a strong case. If we do not get this absurd policy retracted or changed (by making the reissue process a very simple one (requiring only the current OCI card, copies of new foriegn passport and old foreign passport, photographs, application and the fee) NRIs will continue to face a big hardship upon having their foreign passports renewed.
